Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro Fixed Blade Survival Knife (31-001901)

Bear Grylls made his fame on the Man vs Wild series but this knife made its fame on Get Out Alive where 10 two-person teams competed in a series of survival challenges hosted and judged by Bear Grylls. In survival situations, you want gear you can depend on and the Ultimate Pro Fixed Blade Survival knife is just that – 9CR19MoV steel fine-edge blade, full-tang construction with a sharpener and ferrocerium fire starter in the sheath. No fancy, complex features that may fail when you need them most – just solid construction and quality engineering from Bear Gryll’s experience and backed by Gerber’s lifetime warranty. The Bear Grylls Survival Knife is the cornerstone of the Gerber product line of Bear Gryll’s branded survival gear, including the Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Multitool as well as an assortment of other pocket tools and knives as well as survival hatchets, firestarters, saws and torches (flashlights).

Our Hands-On Review

Well balanced, the Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro Survival knife is agile for fine cutting work and strong enough for hacking firewood. The rubberized and textured handle with oversized bolster keeps a secure grip even when wet. The lanyard cord has an emergency whistle attached for signaling when help is nearby. Lashing holes in the handle let you attach the knife to a pole for extended reach or to make a spear. They also serve as the friction retention points that secure the knife in the sheath (use of the handle strap is still recommended).

The sheath is made of a ballistic nylon upper section joined with a composite bottom section. Designed for belt carry, the Bear Grylls Survival Knife sheath will fit belts up to 2 inches but is not Molle compatible. The Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife comes extremely sharp and the 9Cr19MoV steel is an upgrade from the 7Cr17MoV found on the original. Simply inserting and removing the knife from the sheath will keep it sharp under normal use as the sharpener is built into the sheath. A great feature, the carbide sharpener is designed to sharpen the entire fine edge of the knife and take knife sharpening skills out of the equation. Also integrated into the sheath is the waterproof storage for the ferrocerium fire starting rod. Packaged with the Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife is a waterproof pocket survival guide. The illustrations can help get you through stressful situations and accomplish critical survival functions.
